Campaign Desk
Commissioned by a client for their child who was graduating architecture school, this portable writing desk was inspired by those carried by 18th century military leaders during their campaigns in the field.
Meant to contain everything needed to correspond on the road, this hinged and handled box converts to an angled writing desk when the brass catches are released. Drawers provide storage for paper and pens, and the desk conceals multiple secret compartments.
It was constructed primarily from olive wood panels salvaged from the walls of a Long Island North Shore estate. Using this reclaimed material presented significant construction challenges, but results in a truly one-of-a-kind piece with special meaning to the client.
